SWS05: Revision and Changes to the IEEE 149 Standard on Antenna Measurements

AMTA Workshop, Wednesday - 8:40-12:30am

Lars Jacob Foged Microwave Vision, Italy

Manuel Sierra Castañer Microwave Vision, Italy

Context

The IEEE 149 Standard on Antenna Measurements is in the process of being reviewed and rewritten. The Standard has not have any major change since 1979. Many common techniques used in antenna measurement such as compact ranges or reverberation chambers are not described in the original standard from 1979. The committee has put together a revised table of contents and has started to assign key people to each topic. Today, the actual writing of the new standard has begun.

The purpose of the workshop is to inform on the ongoing activities in this standardisation group and to keep an active European participation in the IEEE standardisation work.

Several speakers will present introductions to sections of the standard that they have volunteer to help developing. Compact Ranges, Indoor range recommended practices, Reverberation chamber methods, Uncertainty analysis will be presented during the workshop.

Workshop structure

The workshop will be led by the proponents (Lars Jacob Foged - Secretary of the IEEE antenna standard Committee and Manuel Sierra – AMTA Europe Liaison). The chair and secretary of the IEEE 149 Standard on Antenna Measurements (Vince Rodriguez and Jeff Fordham).

The proponents will select specific topics of specific interest and invited speakers. They will cover different subjects related to the standard revision and techniques that will be added to the document. The audience is encouraged to provide comments to the committee on areas they believe the standard should cover.

Speakers

  1. Jeffrey Fordham, MI Technologies “Status of the revision of the IEEE 149 Standard on antenna measurements”
  2. Vince Rodriguez, MI Technologies “Basic rules for selecting a method and indoor range design”
  3. Lars Foged, MVG “ Compact ranges theory and basics”
